Variations in the Cyclotron Resonant Scattering Features during 2011 outburst of 4U 0115+63
We study the variations in the Cyclotron Resonant Scattering Feature (CRSF)
during 2011 outburst of the high mass X-ray binary 4U 0115+63 using
observations performed with Suzaku, RXTE, Swift and INTEGRAL satellites. The
wide-band spectral data with low energy coverage allowed us to characterize the
broadband continuum and detect the CRSFs. We find that the broadband continuum
is adequately described by a combination of a low temperature (kT ~ 0.8 keV)
blackbody and a power-law with high energy cutoff (Ecut ~ 5.4 keV) without the
need for a broad Gaussian at ~ 10 keV as used in some earlier studies. Though
winds from the companion can affect the emission from the neutron star at low
energies (< 3 keV), the blackbody component shows a significant presence in our
continuum model. We report evidence for the possible presence of two
independent sets of CRSFs with fundamentals at ~ 11 keV and ~ 15 keV. These two
sets of CRSFs could arise from spatially distinct emitting regions. We also
find evidence for variations in the line equivalent widths, with the 11 keV
CRSF weakening and the 15 keV line strengthening with decreasing luminosity.
Finally, we propose that the reason for the earlier observed anti-correlation
of line energy with luminosity could be due to modelling of these two
independent line sets (~ 11 keV and ~ 15 keV) as a single CRSF.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures (4 in colour), 6 tables. Accepted for publication

Triplet heterotopic pregnancy following ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate: a case report and review of literature
Heterotopic pregnancy, though rare is a combined pregnancy in which synchronous intrauterine and extra uterine pregnancy occur. An estimated incidence of between 1/8000 to 1/30,000 has been reported following spontaneous conception. After artificial reproductive techniques, the incidence is as high as 1/100 and after ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate, it is around 1/900. We are reporting a case of 26 year old gravida 2 who conceived after ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate and presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain. Ultrasound pelvis showed viable twin intrauterine gestation of 8 weeks along with ruptured ectopic pregnancy on the right tube. After stabilizing the patient, emergency laparotomy and right salpingectomy was performed. Fortunately, the intrauterine twin fetuses grew satisfactorily and patient was delivered by caesarean section at 36 weeks in view of previous lower segment caesarean section with preterm labour. Heterotopic pregnancy must be considered in a patient with amenorrhea, abdominal pain, adnexal mass and enlarged uterus particularly, conception following artificial reproductive techniques or fertility drugs, even though the intrauterine pregnancy has been documented. A high index of suspicion is important to avoid maternal morbidity, sometimes mortality and loss of intrauterine pregnancy
On the occurrence of Decapterus macrosoma in trawl catches at fisheries harbour, Cochin
The scads (Decapterus spp.) locally known as 'Thiriyan' forms an important carangid fishery in 'trawls' at Fisheries Harbour, Cochin contributing about 45.09 and 60.67 % of the carangids caught in trawls during 1987 and 1988 respectively. D. macrosoma contributed upto 50% of the catches with the maximum catch per effort of 44.50 kg. This species represented by an abundant catch of juveniles and sub adults also contributing upto an estimated catch of 2,941 kg (catch/effort: 17 kg)
